Rockstar has shared the full Edge #430 GTA VI cover story, and it's now free to read online. Edge sat in at Rockstar North while co-studio head Rob Nelson played the current build unscripted for 90 minutes. Here are the biggest confirmed details, in our own words.
The world
- Leonida is roughly twice the size of GTA V's map, and Rockstar says the total landmass is nearly as big as GTA IV, GTA V and RDR2's maps combined.
- "An order of magnitude more interiors" than previous games, with lived-in homes you can wander into.
- Around 600,000 animations, and pedestrians get personality traits that shape how they react to you.
- Roads are narrower than GTA V's to feel more believable, and the day-night cycle is much longer.
- Weather is fully dynamic: you can see storms forming in the distance, roads stay wet afterwards, and wind affects boats and aircraft.
- Working buses and trains you can ride across the map.
Crime and the police
- A new heat system shows what the police know about you (description, clothes, weapon, CCTV, partner). Change outfits, split up or ditch the gun to shake it.
- Openly carrying a weapon can spook pedestrians before you ever fire it.
- Stolen cars can have trackers, owners can fight back, and every vehicle has fuel and engine health.
- Police use stinger strips and K9 units.
- The Scooter Bros app delivers your car to you, and your weapons are stored in the boot.
- A WAINK app lists specific cars wanted by fences, paid partly on condition.
Jason and Lucia
- A Criminal Profile tracks how you play, from Professional to Irredeemable, and Rockstar says it influences how the story unfolds.
- Their relationship has a four-point closeness scale, built up through things like beach walks, cycling and the gym.
- You can switch between them mid-action, for example one drives while the other shoots.
- There is some gating between story missions, so you'll sometimes need to raise cash with side jobs first.

Which detail has you most hyped: the heat system, the Criminal Profile, or the weather? 19 November can't come fast enough.
The longer day night cycle is the bit I keep coming back to. Sunset at Mount Kalaga won't come round every few minutes, so driving up there for it will actually feel worth it. Storms forming in the distance over the Grassrivers should look properly moody too. Worth reading the Edge piece in full, the interiors section alone is wild.
