Looking up when GTA 6 pre-load starts in the UK, how big the download is, or whether physical copies can pre-load? Here's the official picture as of 16 October 2026, with sources.
Short answer
- Pre-load opens 12 November at local midnight for digital pre-orders. Rockstar Support
- Launch is still 19 November 2026 on PS5 (incl. PS5 Pro) and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar
- Rockstar has not published a final install size yet, so leave plenty of free storage (think tens of GB free, not a couple).
UK / local midnight explained
"Local midnight" means 00:00 in your console account's region, not a single global UTC flip. For a UK PlayStation or Xbox account, expect pre-load to unlock around midnight UK time on 12 November (GMT that week — the UK is on GMT after the clocks change on 25 Oct).
If your account region is different from where you live, the unlock follows the account country, not your postcode.
Digital vs physical
- Digital: once pre-orders are live on your store, the game should auto-download when pre-load opens if auto-download / rest mode download is enabled.
- Physical: the box is a download code, not a disc. Codes start arriving from 12 November. Redeem as soon as you get it so the download can start. Rockstar Support
PlayStation UK gotchas
- Region-locked codes. A UK PSN account needs a UK code. Don't buy from another country's store hoping it'll be cheaper. Rockstar Support
- Auto-download settings. On PS5, turn on Automatic Login and rest-mode downloads so the console can pull the game overnight.
- GTA+ free month (digital pre-orders). Claim by 31 March 2027 on UK PlayStation terms, and note it can auto-renew after the free month. PlayStation UK
Xbox notes
Xbox codes are not region-locked the same way PlayStation codes are, but buying from a retailer that matches your account country is still the safest path. Same 12 Nov local midnight pre-load window applies. Rockstar Support
Checklist before 12 November
- Free up storage now (don't wait for Rockstar's size number).
- Confirm edition: Standard £69.99 / Ultimate £89.99 in the UK. You can upgrade to Ultimate later. The Independent
- Buy before 20 November if you want the Vintage Vice City Pack pre-order bonus.
- Test your internet at night; pre-load week will be busy globally.
How long will the download take?
Nobody can honestly quote an exact UK time without the final file size and your line speed. Rough mental math once Rockstar posts the size:
